o serve the needs of a growing population, Children’s is adding six floors and opening an outpatient surgery center at the hospital’s main campus on Motor Street. Children’s also has purchased 57 acres in Plano to build a facility to serve families north of Dallas.
These plans reflect the ongoing commitment of Children’s to meet the medical needs of a rapidly growing pediatric population.
“We recognize that the number of children in North Texas could increase by as much as 26 percent to a total of about 2 million children within the next 10 years. We want all of those children and their families to have access to the quality and highly specialized care that we provide at Children’s,” says George Farr, president and CEO of Children’s.
Today, Children’s is licensed for 322 beds and operates nearly
50 outpatient specialty clinics. However, the booming population in North Texas is outstripping the hospital’s capacity and resources to
care for the area’s children.

A six-floor addition to the main campus at 1935 Motor St., which began earlier this year, and is scheduled for completion in early 2003. The expansion will add 132 beds.
The establishment of the Children’s Pavilion, located in the former Menswear Mart building at Stemmons Freeway and Motor Street, near the hospital’s main campus. The 152,000-square-foot
surgery center will support 5,000 to 8,000 day surgeries a year.
The purchase of 57 acres in Plano’s Legacy Park to serve families in the rapidly growing Collin and Denton counties. The location will include inpatient beds, medical office space for primary and specialist physicians, and diagnostic and support services such as laboratories, rehabilitation services and radiology.
