Growth Near and Far; Children’s expands main campus, plans additional site for Plano Photo of Children's Medical Center in PlanoChildren’s Medical Center Dallas will open the first of six new floors this fall, has opened an out-patient surgery center at the hospital’s main campus on Motor Street and has purchased land in Plano to build a facility to serve families north of Dallas.

These plans reflect the ongoing commitment of Children’s to meet the medical needs of a rapidly growing pediatric population.

Today, Children’s is licensed for 348 beds and operates nearly 50 out-patient specialty clinics. However, the booming population in North Texas has outstripped the hospital’s capacity and resources to care for the area’s children.

The Children’s expansion plans include:

  • The recent opening of the Children’s Pavilion Surgery Center. The 34,100-square-foot surgery center, located in the former Menswear Mart building at Stemmons Freeway and Motor Street near the hospital’s main campus, supports 5,000 to 8,000 day surgeries a year.
  • A six-floor addition to the main campus at 1935 Motor St., which will begin opening in September. The addition will add 78 inpatient beds and 44 pediatric ICU beds.
  • The purchase of 57 acres in Plano’s Legacy Park near Preston and Hedgecoxe roads to serve families in the rapidly growing Collin and Denton counties. Early plans indicate the location will include inpatient beds, medical office space for primary and specialist physicians, and diagnostic and support services such as laboratories, rehabilitation services and radiology.

Children’s enjoys a stellar reputation as one of the finest pediatric facilities in the United States, recognized by organizations such as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Service to the thousands of children who come each year to be treated for various ailments continues to be the hospital’s primary concern.
