Since 1995, 69 Dallas children have died as a result of a pedestrian-related incident.
With many children walking or riding bicycles to school, parents should review pedestrian safety tips with their children.
The following are tips that parents can teach and model for their children:

Cross at intersections and crosswalks. Motorists are more likely to slow their vehicles at these locations, which often have stop or yield signs, vs. the middle of a street. |
Don’t run into the street or between parked cars. |

Stop at the curb or edge of the street and look left, right, then left again before crossing. Continue watching both directions until you reach the other side. |

Children age 10 or younger should not cross the street by themselves; they are not cognitively ready to understand the risks. |
Remember: Motorists often do not see a child. |
